Product details

To be effective, curricula must be comprehensive in scope and provide learning experiences specifically designed to support children at various levels of development. A scope and sequence can be a helpful tool that education staff use to plan learning experiences tailored to children’s ages and developmental levels. It helps staff look ahead to see where development is going, and intentionally scaffold their learning. It also helps education staff implement research-based teaching practices that support children as they move through the developmental progressions.

Scope and sequence are a term that describes the ideas and concepts that will be covered in a book or course within a curriculum. This usually comes in list format, with all topics listed in the order that they appear in the book or course. This list describes what students would have learned after finishing the book or course. Scope and sequence refer to the plans intended to support students’ learning. Scope describes the areas of development addressed in the curriculum while sequence refers to plans and content to support students ’learning.

By taking the time to develop thoughtful learning goals and outcomes, you can enhance the quality of your instruction — and potentially save yourself from needing to deal with frustrating situations without a game plan. Scope refers to the combined objectives and requirements needed to complete a project. The term is often used in project management. Properly defining the scope of a project allows managers to estimate costs and the time required to finish the project. That’s what makes scope management such an important part of a business — it saves both time and money.

There are generally two different types of scope in project management. A detailed scope and sequence chart allow the teacher to examine the instructional design of a program. They might agree or disagree with the order in which material is presented, but at least they have the information at hand to do so. Instructors can also use such a chart to see what is not included in a particular course.
