Product details

A theory of change explains how the activities undertaken by an intervention (such as a project, program or policy) contribute to a chain of results that lead to the intended or observed impacts.

Other labels that your colleagues, partners and evaluators might use include – results chain, logic model, program theory, outcome mapping, impact pathway and investment logic.

A theory of change is often developed during the planning stage but can also be useful for monitoring and evaluation. A good theory of change can help to develop better Key Evaluation Questions, identify key indicators for monitoring, identify gaps in available data, prioritize additional data collection, and provide a structure for data analysis and reporting.

As a manager, you might be directly involved in developing and using the theory of change, or you might oversee the process which internal staff and / or an external evaluator conduct. Whatever your level of direct involvement, you will want to ensure the quality of the process and the product.

A key part of this is ensuring there are informed choices made about the processes used to develop the theory of change and how to represent it. These choices should take into account how the theory of change is intended to be used and any particular features of the intervention. Check if the following elements are in place and, if not, if it is possible to add them either in the main diagram and narrative or in supplementary documents.

Change theory identifies one or more causal mechanisms by which change comes about for individuals, groups or communities. Action theory explains how interventions are constructed to activate their theory of change in terms of the activities that will be undertaken and what level of success will be needed for each result to produce the final intended impact.

Our Theory of Change template consists of four slides. The first slide is designed as a diagram of various activities. You can indicate the main stages of your process and describe each of them. You can also specify how actions will affect the final result. This slide will be helpful when developing a new strategy or updating manufacturing procedures. The next slide gives you the opportunity to describe any sequential steps in your plan. This slide will be useful for planners and instruction developers. The third slide is presented in large blocks with a small amount of infographics. You can use this slide when you need a more detailed description of each stage. This slide can be used to describe the roles of each employee or department in the company in implementing a development strategy.

The slides in this bundle can be useful for HR specialists. They can also be used by startups and investment companies. All Theory of Change slides of the template comply with modern design and have professional tools for building presentations.
